Kula means clan and devatā means deities. So kuladevata is the deity of the clan. It is first layer of protection and also the first step to any higher level puja. Every higher order deity can bless you only when the power within you (Kuladevi & Iṣṭadevatā) is pleased. Otherwise, even Brahma himself cannot give you any boon, this law of nature is explained in Gita. That is the very reason why before initiation, the sadhus are asked to worship their Kuladevi & Iṣṭadevatā and take their permission.

Our protective cover is Kuladevi /Kuladevta

Kuladevta is our protective cover who fights and stops any external obstacle, negative energy before entering the family or person. It also warns from time to time about family rituals and moral conduct. One who worships any Iṣṭha without remembering Kuladevta , his prayers will not reach the iṣṭha. This is because these deities are bridge for spiritual progress and no prayers to them causes the bridge to stop working. As a result external obstacles, malpractices etc., negative energy starts reaching the person without any hindrance. Sometimes the worship of iṣṭha being done by individuals or families gets consumed by some other external energy, that is, worship neither goes to the iṣṭha nor does it grants any benefit. This happens because of the absence of powerful Kuladevta (who is not being awaken in your heart).

Do Kuladevta  harm us?

Also remember that Kuladevta  never harms anyone. The reason for the obstacles created by not worshiping the Kuladevi is not the Kuladevi herself but the breakdown of our protection wheel. Goddesses or deities become full of power when we do offerings from time to time and worship them regularly. When we stop worshiping Kuladevta  then they become mute observers and their powers are reduced and as such a family is subjected to problems.

 Why do people forget their Kuladevi or Kuladevta ?

Due to shifting of families to one another place, conversion of religion, being displaced by the fear of invaders, untimely death of the elderly person, the development of heterogeneity, etc, many families have lost their paternal deity or simply forgot the goddess or they did not know who their deity/goddess is or how they are worshiped. Also there are families living in cities for generations and also some self-proclaimed modern believers looking for science in everything Those too in the pride of their knowledge or in the pride of their present good condition left theirKuladevta  or did not pay attention to them.

How a deity does become a Kuladevi orKuladevta ?

When there is a lineage & tradition to worship the powers of gods and godlike human beings (Kuladevi & Iṣṭadevatā) to free their family from negative forces, then those powers and humans became the Kuladevi or Kuladevta  of those clans. They are near to family and also the primary deities of every puja.

Our ancestors worshiped specific supernatural powers in the form of Kuladevi to protect their family from negative energies and obstacles arising from them. This power used to prevent negative energy from creating obstacles and obstacles in the progress of that lineage. And the worship of that Kuladevi became a tradition from generation to generation in that dynasty. Hence the reason for a particular Kuladevi or Kuladevta .

How do we find out Kuladevta /Kuladevi of a clan- Process and requirements?

We perform astamanglya Praśna which is a very divine process to ascertain the Kuladevta  or Kuladevi of a clan. During the process deities are invoked and enquired about the Kuladevta . Sometimes unknown Kuladevta   are been asked to help in the session. It is a tedious and time consuming process and requires following:

1. The knowledge about gotra, clan, lineage. Even if the caste is changed.
2. Special offerings to deities and arrangements of special puja.
3. The place of origin or city or village the person belongs to.
4. The elders need to be asked for verification.
5. The knowledge of present location.
6. Pooja takes around 2 to 3 hours and requires lot of Paraphernalia.
7. The process gives us certain numbers for calculations.
8. These numbers are analyzed in separate process for answers.

You can only order this report if you are aware of all the above. The process take two three or even five days to complete and may involve more then one prashna session. It is not a hasty process so if you are in a hurry please do not order this report. The report will be calculated after pooja and will be emailed to the person.

 Two/ Three days or more depending on report (Some reports take 15 days or more). Life reports/kula-ḍevtha report/iṣṭha ḍevtha report/time correction etc. takes more time (15 days or more). It depends on work at hand. (There is no hard and fast rule). I usually do it at the earliest possible time. This does not include Saturdays, Sundays (meant of Vastu classes) and ekadashi.
