What is Mantra /Strotram/ Sahastranāma? The importance of Nyasa / kīlaka / Viniyoga
What is Mantra /Strotram/ Sahastranāma? The importance of Nyasa / kīlaka / Viniyoga etc and the fifth, eighth and twelfth house in Jyotisha / Horoscope of Saints.
Mantra is ṣabda Brahman. Imagine them like a high voltage line of 22000 KV or more. Now imagine yourself as a fifty-watt bulb. What will happens if we invite 22000 KV or 44000 KV of energy into this bulb? Obviously not illumination :-).
Mantras do not kill us; however, they just mutilate every fuse and nut inside our body making a person mentally unstable and paranoid. Therefore, mantras require a carrier a powerhouse. Our body is afflicted with ṭāmas and Ṣadripu or six enemies of Lust, greed etc. It requires two types of cleaning.
- One is outer cleaning or bahiṣṭāt or bāhya śuddhi
- Another is āṃtarika आंतरिक śuddhi.
The bāhya śuddhi requires you to take a bath daily, clean yourself up, and watch all the conditions of aśauca अशौच. Aśauca also requires an observation of dośas generated by strī and śiśu. House or abode requires strict adherence to these rules, which is also difficult.
However, the āṃtarika आंतरिक śuddhi is tough and requires initiation into mantra or ṭantra. It is not easy and hence the need of the guru is recommended by all the sastras. The Bhutaśuddhi is one process where all the elements inside the body are burnt systematically and a new body, which is entirely newly born, is created. It is like a cycle of death and birth. The new body is also devoid of pāpapuruṣa, which is burnt during the stages of Bhutaśuddhi. It is the same pāpapuruṣa; that resides in grains on Ekadashi. (All grain not just rice.)
śrī-bhagavān uvāca—
uttiṣṭha pāpapuruṣa tyaja śokaṁ mudaṁ kuru
ekādaśyāṁ tithau yatra tava sthānaṁ vadāmi te
Therefore, when we are very pure from outside and inside, then we do Nyasa. In mantra chanting, the body is the embodiment or carrier of the supreme Brahmin hence it is not treated like a body. In this bhava, the body is spirit. Then the rishis are assembled on head of mantra, ḍevthas of mantra assemble in heart lotus and so on.
The manta is tied to sumeru of body or the Pamir knot so that it cannot go anywhere else. The shortages or afflictions are removed. The ṃatrika, akśaras are invoked on body and body becomes the utmost pure soul like the divine himself. Only then, the mantra is chanted. Then we become a 22000 KV line our self, we are no more a bulb.
However, be cautious because without the purification above, all the chanting whether mantra, strotram, sahastranāma will bring troubles to body and soul. The person can become mentally unstable, paranoid and will suffer from diseases etc. Therefore, mantras or chanting is nothing to be played with.
When we chant a mantra the sound vibrations generated invoke the deity been referred in the sound or Ṣabda. Mantras are ṣabda Brahman, as they are not created by anyone. When we announce the Rishis during chanting, the rishis or saints are not creators of that mantra. These rishis are dṛṣṭā or watchers. They have seen them during their transcendental meditation. As in lalitā sahastranāma, we announce वशिन्यादयो वाग्देवता ऋषयः, so these vaśinyādayo vāgdevatā ṛṣayaḥ are watchers not creators of the Sahastranāma. The Para Brahman is the creator of these mantras.
The process of Nyasa, Viniyoga, and Kīlaka is actually not purification of the body as been referred. It is actually making the human body a carrier of mantra itself.
Actually when we chant a mantra, strotram or sahastranāma, we basically open a vortex from where we invite the other worldly spiritual powers. However when we are not pure the spiritually pure Brahman just refuse to be invoked because otherwise we can get hurt or die. What enters through that vortex are super negative souls that engulf the very soul of human beings, making them slaves to their powers. They have powers to see future and the likewise however, the native who chants suffers a lot. Health issues, mental aberrations, problematic children, and future generations become common. The person afflicted cannot see anything for the reason that he/she is afflicted. The vortex remain open because only a spiritually elevated person can close it. The houses or residence of such people has certain spots from where these negative entities enter. One who has pure spiritual powers can find these spots.
In Jyotisha, the 12th house of salvation and 8th house of death are two most important houses with the 4th and 5th house. The natural Brahmin signs of Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces are transit rashis if we look at the gandānt naskaśtras where they reside. These rashis indicate rebirth or Bhutaśuddhi in the mantras; where the rebirth takes place. The spiritual strata requires that these bhavas and rashis should not be afflicted in any case. A spiritual person is a newborn person hence during initiation in Naga sadhus they do their death ceremony. The person initiated is a new birth so the names are also changed.
These houses like the 8th and 12th are also bad houses besides being good simply because they denote the vortex channels. When they are afflicted, the person suffers from opened vortex and negative super powers and then there is no rebirth but just death like problems. Here more than the 4th house, the 8th and 12th house are considered very important because these are the houses of rebirth or salvation. The fifth house is the creative triangle. Creativity is a Godly thing, so people having strong fifth house (benefic) only will have strong visions about mantras. They live with mantras.
You will see that people who have bad association in these house especially of malefic mars, Saturn and Ketu are very intuitive but they are also prone to mood swings, health issues etc. Only shubha Grahas should be associated to these houses, otherwise the person suffers.
Let us see some examples:
Swami Parmananda:
The 12th house has ketu carrying aspect from strong Jupiter in 8th house. 5TH house carries aspect of 4 planets. 5th lord placed in own sign in Lagna Navmansha which is very strong. Hence the person was an accomplished seer. He use to see future as if he was watching a television.
Swami Raman Maharishi:
A very well known Saint who is a living embodiment of spiritual powers. The 5th house lord Saturn is in Kendra in Pisces the sign of liberation. 8th house lord is in its own house. 12th house lord in dharma Rashi in 4th house. Sign Scorpio is occupied by two benefics.
Swami Aurobindo
The 5th house lord in Kendra with exalted Guru. Such people have powers to invoke mantras on mere utterance. 12th lord is Mercury in Illuminating sign Leo. 8th house lord is Saturn with Moon in Dharma rashi.
Swami Vivekananda
12th and 5th lord in 5th in its own sign. It is a Krūra graha in natural way, which causes intense practises of meditation. 8th house lord is Moon with Saturn in the tenth house which means research or curiosity was his profession. It was this curiosity that lead him to Swami Ramakrishna. His Rahu is weak in 12th and is giving the results of Mars only as the sign belongs to Mars.
The atmakarkas in all above charts is very well placed.
These examples tell us that a spiritual person is twice born that is why we address them as dvijá. It is the Brahman within that we address to; because the person visible is no more. He takes another birth as Brahman.
Hence, it is very important to be careful with mantras and chanting. There are many examples where people lost their mental balance. Sometimes such people shows extraordinary skills but they are still afflicted as far as their personal life is concerned.
