One who cannot differentiate between a plant and meat, one who cannot distinguish between taste and tasteless, one who cannot differentiate between a king and a beggar, one who cannot discern between a Brahmin and a dog, one who considers everything as equal and cannot choose anything based on his discrimination, is either a “Moodha” (A fool) or there is God within him, because everything above is a creation of God.

Once, Saint Vamakhepa was eating meat amongst the Brahmins sitting with him. The Brahmins got annoyed because of this, so the whole meat changed into sweetmeats. It is the drishti the way of looking at the things that makes it so. So for Saint Vama meat was nothing.

Once When the GuruNanak dev Sahib visited Kurukshetra in Haryana, a big fair was being held at the holy tank to celebrate the solar eclipse. There were a large number of pilgrims all over the country. On his arrival at the fair, Guru Nanak had Mardana cook them a meat dish of a deer presented to them by one of his followers. Upon finding that meat was being cooked on the holy premises, a large angry crowd gathered in anger to attack the Guru for what they thought amounted to sacrilege (Bhai Mani Singh, Gyan Ratnavali, pg. 123). Upon hearing the angry crowd Guru Nanak responded;
“Only fools argue whether to eat meat or not. They don’t understand truth nor do they meditate on it. Who can define what is meat and what is plant? Who knows where the sin lies, being a vegetarian or a non- vegetarian?” (Malhar)
So dear friends “Truth is not what we see, but truth is how we see it.” For ordinary humans the truth is what is seen. For a realized soul, truth is what is heard from inside.
So says the Bhagwad Geeta:
“Shuni chaive shavpakech pandita sam darshina”
Who is a yogi? Sam darshina, one who sees everything with equanimity is a yogi.

I wonder how careful we are with matters in hand. Do we really ponder upon the real issues in life or we just get engrossed in issues we cannot solve ? People who come to me describe their diseases and their sufferings but they really forget to tell me about their overindulgences in life. The food, the drink.. they just become convincingly forgetful for this part. They just remember their sufferings and they do forget the extras derived from the greed of taste and temporary happiness. One saint explained the same in a very good manner. He said that God has granted us a quota for everything. For example.. he granted us a quota of sugar for life. Suppose it is 2000 KG for whole life. You can finish that 2000 kg in three years or you can finish it in lifetime. If you finish it earlier then you will suffer from diabetes and will not be able to enjoy the sweetness. No matter what you do, you cannot exceed your rationing before time. If you do, you will suffer from conditions that will not allow further grants. So control on tongue and body is extremely important rather than getting tensed after the consequences. If you are careful about excess then you will never suffer from anything, but we become careful only when we suffer.
